Find fractions, decimals, and percentages of amounts expressed as whole numbers, simple fractions, and decimals.

W.A.L.T Find fractions, decimals, and percentages of amounts expressed as whole numbers, simple fractions, and decimals.

I learned about how the percentages work.
What I found challenging was the surfs up activity because working out the prices were hard.
How I worked out the surfs up percentages were I asked myself what is 50% or 10% of that number.

Information Report

Intro

Water cycle is process that endlessly goes through between land, sea and the atmosphere, it recycle in the process that it goes through. The three stages it goes through during the cycle their liquid, gas and solid. The steps in the water cycle are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and groundwater/runoff.

                                    Evaporation

Evaporation is when the sun heats up the water e.g. on oceans, lakes and rivers, the water into a gas called vapour. For the water cycle to reach the sky from the ground the heat rises it as condensation; evaporation turns the water into a gas called vapour. The sun's heat makes the water rise which turns to condensation. The next stage is condensation/ precipitation.

                        Condensation/ precipitation

Condensation/ precipitation, all air contains water molecules in the form of water, which is invisible. Condensation creates from a heat from the sun. condensation makes the cloud from the gas forming together. Now for runoff and groundwater.

                             Runoff/ groundwater

Runoff/ groundwater, groundwater has a storage unit underground. Did you know that there is always water running below your feet. The water moves because of gravity.

                                         Conclusion

I think that the water cycle is a good way to recycle the water and reuse it, because

13 highlights away

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E ( Highlight the ones that apply to you and give reasons why you have highlighted them.) because i have the least of ticks on this one.

To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to try to get more ticks.

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is my Exellence because I have the least ticks on it.

PALS #5

On Wednesday did my pals the game we played stuck in the mud. Firstly we had to set up the boundaries of the game. Secondly we had to round up all the kids then we just started because everyone knew the rules. The leadership trait I think I showed the best was resilience because of trying to round all of the kids for the pozzies.

PALS #4

Today I did pals the game we were refereeing was small field football. Firstly we had to set up the markers, then to hand out the bibs and make the teams as even as possible, Then we choose two of the goalies one from each team. We then were playing the game and reffing at the same time it was fun. The leadership trait I think I showed the most was integrity because I was playing/refereeing fairly and honestly.

PALS #6

Today we referred the pals game because today was my pals duty. The game we played was football because the pals have to monitor and ref the games. The year 7/8's don't need any refs so I got to play. We did year 7's vs year 8's, the score was 1-0 to the year 8's. The leadership trait I think I showed the best was integrity because i was not cheating and i was playing fair.

Gardning club

last week on Thursday at morning tea I helped to do gardening club because i'm part of it. For this we have been working on the new path beside room 23. Some of us go down one the end by the concrete (not the entrance)they had to use spades to dig up the edges. I was working down the other end (the end by the entrance) I was working down there. We had to use some grubber it was fun using them and that was my favourite part of this activity.

On The Bus At Tech

Today at 8:30 we had to be at school so we could get on our bus to go to Lincoln primary school. On the bus at tech I think I showed all of the care values. The one I think I showed the best was fill seats sensibly.

Visual Art

Visual Art: WALT: Apply knowledge about shapes and patterns derived from nature into an original artwork

For Visual Art the SOLO level I achieved was: Extended Abstract
I techniques I used in my art work to achieve this level were:

Here is a photo of my artwork:

PALS #2

Today for pals I arranged a game of small field football. First we split the teams evenly, then we sorted out who was starting, we also played with some of the little kids. I think I showed integrity the best because I was honest at refereeing a fair game.

Canta maths #3

Today just before maths, we would be doing a problem solving lesson. But i'm in CantaMaths instead of doing problem solving i have to do some training. We have a survey with some hard questions like
Today is Wednesday. What day will it be 90 days from now?  I ended with a score of 19/20 questions because the answers have to be ecxact.
The leadership quality I think I used goal focused because I focused on the questions really hard.

reading comprehension strategies

Year 7/8 Standard: Reading Assessment task

WALT: I can use a use a wide range of comprehension strategies to understand text such as: - using their prior knowledge, along with information in the text, to interpret abstract ideas, complex plots, and sophisticated themes - gathering, evaluating, and synthesising information across a small range of texts - identifying and resolving issues that come from competing information in texts

Complete both texts and write the answers in your own words.
TASK 1 - read the text about Sneakairs

TEXT: EasyJet's Smart "Sneakairs" Makes Sightseeing Effortless

What I already know about navigating with maps?
  • that it tracks where your phone is moving
  • it can help you find places
  • it can help you know where you are
Who created “Senakairs?”?
easyjet
How do the “Sneakairs” work?
  • they have a tracker s that google maps can track the shoes and the shoes have a gps
How do “Sneakairs” help tourists visiting a new city or town?
  • they wont get lost
  • they can find their way easy
What challenge does easyJet need to overcome before “Sneakairs” can go mainstream?
  • they still need to tweak the prototype
Can you think of any other uses for smart shoes like Sneakairs? - (give at least 2)
  • for the asians
  • to help tourists
Can you think of a better invention than Sneakairs to help us navigate places? Why is that invention better than Sneakairs?
  • a hat that can track where you are

TASK 2: The purpose of this task is to identify details that support a main idea.
A main idea that the author David Hill often explores is: New Zealand's natural environment, and how awesome (impressive and amazing) and powerful it can be.
Read the following passages from pages 7, 8 and 9 of "The Sleeper Wakes" by David Hill.
a) Find details in the text that support this main idea. Underline these details.
b) Think about what the 'sleeper' is, and how it would 'wake' up. Highlight details in the text that suggest this development.
Two girls stood with their parents by a car, watching him. So Corey tried to look cool and expert, and he started up the track behind his father.
The blunt pyramid of Mt Taranaki lifted into a blue winter sky. Snow softened the cliffs where lava had flowed, thousands of years ago. High up towards the summit, the ridge of The Lizard showed where more lava had crawled downwards before cooling and setting.
Corey lowered his gaze to the 4WD track twisting up the mountain's north-east flank. Packed grey and green trees rose on either side. After just ten metres, all sounds from the carpark faded away. Only the crunch of their boots broke the silence.
Three steps ahead, his Dad walked steadily. He wore a woollen hat and green Gortex jacket to keep out the June cold. Warwick Lockyer, Department of Conservation Field Officer; expert on Mt Taranaki; tramper and climber.
His father loved this mountain. He loved its silences and stories, the way it tested people. Corey felt the same way. Being up here was the greatest feeling in the world. Pity some other people couldn't see it that way.
* * *
After 30 minutes' climbing, they paused, took deep breaths, and gazed around. The trees were lower. Tangled, waist-high shrubs had taken over, crammed together for shelter, tops flattened by the wind. In summer, white and yellow flowers blazed here, flowers that grew nowhere else in the world. Now everything huddled beneath winter snow.
Far below, the towns glinted like little grey models – New Plymouth, Inglewood, Stratford. Off to the left, the Tasman Sea was a sheet of grey steel.
On the horizon, blue-and-white shapes shouldered upwards: the peaks of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, Tongariro. Corey thought of Riki, the other DoC Field Officer. From Riki, he'd heard how Mt Taranaki once stood beside those other volcanoes, fought with them for the love of beautiful Mt Pihanga, then marched away in anger after losing the fight. Hardly any Maori people lived along the line between Ruapehu and Mt Taranaki; they believe that one day, Taranaki would head back in the fire and smoke to find his love again.
Corey stood listening to the silence. A puff of wind slid past. A pebble, loosened by the morning sun probably, dropped from an icy bank nearby.
'Awesome day,' Corey said.
His father nodded. 'Pity Dean couldn't make it.'
Corey glanced up at the dazzling white summit. Dean was a volcanologist who monitored New Zealand's North Island volcanoes to see if any eruptions seemed likely. He came to visit two or three times a year, even though nothing ever happened on Mt Taranaki.
Corey's father was gazing upwards, too. He stretched, and grinned at his son. 'Come on, mate. We're sleepier than this mountain.'

Canta maths #2

Today we practiced our canta maths. What we have to do is on google classroom we get assigned a google form. We also have to make a blank google doc. On the doc we write down the answers because when you type the answers in the form they don't save. the leadership trait I think I showed the best was resilience because I never gave up on answering the hard questions.
